House Renovation: A Sneak Peek | Lifestyle

House Renovation: A Sneak Peek | Lifestyle

This time last year myself and Duff(Boyfriend) decided that it was time to move into a new house; essentially one that was ours. As I’d previously lived with him in his old house, we wanted to create a new home where thankfully for me, everything wouldn’t be modern AF and basically the most minimalist house KNOWN TO MAN.

Back last year when we decided to look at houses(p.s still obsessed with RightMove), I don’t think we actually realised how stressful and long the process would be. We’d initially found a house we loved, fully decorated (and to think back now, well too expensive), but we pushed forward….and then to cut a long story short, it didn’t happen. Back to square one, and back to nosing awkwardly around people’s gaff’s whilst pretending you loved everything. Because who wants to be snide to someones face, right?

Then, having known we wanted an older home with character we came upon this (sh**hole) that needed just that. And by doing up, I mean DOING UP. So much that only writing that in capitals would emphasise just how badly in disrepair it was.
So, on that note- after 5 months of the best building crew (ever) working on the house, loads of money spent, sofa finance comin’ out our ears and several trips to the tip, take a lil‘ tour below.

The Hallway

– Literally the only original thing left from the house as everything else decayed, had things crawling in it or just decided to break. Hello money pit.

Hallway Accessories

When you’ve always dreamt of a long hallway to bang some “tatt” in it, as Duff says. This console table is an actual treat and totally adds some warmth to the minimalist long room.

The front room

Aka my room when Duff decides to re-watch The Sopranos for the 15,00000th time.

With this room I wanted to create a more old fashioned style room with a contemporary edge. After all I wanted it to stick with an older ‘s feel, yet not feel completely outdated. And wallah, this was the result.

Picture this: Dry rot central, groovy AF carpet and a musky smell that would make you wanna be sick.

Picture this: Tacky yellow painting and green wallpaper- What. An.Actual.Dream…. (sense that sarcasm, yeah?)

The Kitchen

When we we’re in the process of designing the home layout and deciding on if we’d knock through walls, we’d always said that we’d love to keep it in-keeping with the house but with a modern twist. And I’m pretty proud to say that I think we actually honoured that.

Picture this: Wall to ceiling brown lacquered wood and rotten free standing cabinets- HELLO 1970’s.

Although this doesn’t feature all of the new gaff, I’ll upload another sneak peek soon. As after all  I’ll have to tidy it up and ain’t no-one wanna be hoovering right now.

-Would you ever take on a home renovation project?

P.s I ain’t no fantastic photographer, and I know it’s my house but these totally don’t do it justice. just sayin’.
